Craps is a game of chance and is played on a large sunken table with a pair of dice that are thrown by the “Shooter”. No, the “shooter” does not refer to an irate player who has lost all his money and is seeking revenge; in fact the player who is rolling the dice is called the "shooter". The game is played in rounds, with the first roll of a new round called the "come-out roll." I can make a comment about the latter term, but would prefer not to. Popular amongst sailors, the idea is to bet whether the Shooter is going to roll a winning combination or not. Players must bet on the outcome of the roll, or rolls, of the dice. Craps comes from an earlier English game known as “hazard”.
Perhaps craps is such a popular game because it offers better odds than all the other casino games of chance. It’s also very exciting and tons of fun! As seen in a number of films, a lady blowing on the shooter's dice before he rolls is supposed to bring good luck. In gambling, snake eyes basically means rolling the dice in a game of craps and ending up with only one pip on each die.
The pair of pips look like a pair of eyes. This is the lowest possible roll, and is often the loser in many dice games. The term has been employed in a more general usage and is a reference to bad or poor luck.
