Video Poker was born out of combining a television-type monitor and a solid state central processing unit. The first versions of video poker appeared around the same time that the PC became commercial and very popular, in the 1970s. Anyway, that’s enough with the history lesson – let’s learn how to play!
Video Poker is played between you and the Dealer. You get dealt five cards in your first hand. After you receive your first hand, choose the cards to hold or throw back. The cards you throw back are replaced with fresh ones from the deck.
The objective of Video Poker is to finish the game with the strongest hand. Your payout will depend on the value of the hand you have. The payout values will be described in the Payout Schedule. Once you win your hand, you may increase your winnings by participating in the Doubling phase.
The object of the Doubling phase is to draw a card of higher value than the Dealer's card. If you select a card of higher value, your win amount is doubled and you can choose to repeat the Doubling phase again, or collect your winnings. You can continue Doubling until you draw a card of lesser value than the Dealer's card and lose the hand, or until you reach the Casino's Doubling Limit. You LOSE all your winnings if you lose the Doubling round! Beware, doubling is a calculated risk.
